So I binge-watched the Origin and the Three-Year-Agreement Special, I’m now having a headache, not much better when I binge-read Perfect World.

Wanted to start with the 1st Season but since I’ve watched the Origin, thought I might be able to catch up if I go straight to the highlights. Surprisingly, with the help of spoilers, i kinda got the gist of the events that took place. So do you still recommend that I spend some time rewatching the very first season? Would I miss a lot if I jump straight to the 2nd Season?

Btw, I was confused when you said they didn’t change production studio, from what I read the current studio decided to redo a short 1st season prologue is because they took over from another studio that got dissed badly for their bad visual designs/modelling of the characters. But then again, I could be wrong. I was reading bits and pieces from all kinds of sources.

Back to Shi Hao, I saw some posts from PW fans that Tencent is planning some kind of fights among all the MCs from Tencent’s hottest donghuas: SH, TS, XY, MC from Swallowed Star & the other one I had no idea. To be precise, it was SH challenging the other 4 MCs for a 1 vs 4 battle. I wonder if this is a short game edition or it’s really some kind of joint promotional episodes. Since I’ve only watched DD, PW and now BTTH, I can’t really judge all their strength. Of course, in all fairness, you can’t compare them so easily because the settings of each story is different. But let’s assume it’s a real fight, how do you think SH will fare against the other 4? 😉

The first season can be missed, since it is only 12 episodes, and Yuan Qi covers the essential parts of the story, we still have one more episode of Yuan Qi by the way lol

Actually I am sorry I was the one confused, you are right, they did change studios. Season 1 was done by Foch, surprisingly they are doing Perfect World and Stellar Transformations lol. Season 2 onward were done by Magic Motion

Oooh that is a tough choice, depending on what level Tang San, Shi Hao and Luo Feng since they are at the God level, it might be Luo Feng cause he can create life, and he was as strong as Tang San before he ascended to a higher realm Xiao Yan even though he is very powerful did not ascended to godhood.

Don’t forget our Immortal Emperor Huang. He’s supposed to have reached the apex of the universe and based on the fans forums, he actually revived almost everyone and even restored Willow Deity’s godhood.

As for the other four, it seems TS may be one of the weaker ones according to some comments, but DD5 is likely to change that. He will definitely surpass his grandson who is currently the Law Executor of the Universe. Yes, TJSS boosted the MC in DD4 so much that TS has become an ant as compared to his grandson! Lol!! That’s one of the main reasons why he had no choice but to restart the DD franchise, trying to make TS the most powerful again.

I’m surprised that PW is under the studio that nearly failed BTTH because it’s pretty good actually. If we ignore the story and the scriptwriting, the animation quality of PW is definitely better than DD (Soul Land). Until today, I still see TS’s hair fluttering around in a very rigid manner as if he gelled it stiff, not to mention he walks with such an awkward gait.

lol TJSS should have just stopped when the going is good for DD and just write up another story in another world with another main character. There are people who love to see the DD world, but there are also more people who love to see another world, another main character that isnt in the DD world lol Once you write a continuous lineage in the same world that is related to main character in the first novel, you pretty much backed yourself into a corner.

So true and you definitely invite comparisons with the previous popular MC. But for TJSS, he just loves linking all his novels under one universe. Even the Throne of Seal has some relations to DD. Speaking of which, I’m slowly losing interest in the ToS. Compared to BTTH and even PW, I feel like I’m watching a kid’s anime. Everything is somehow so childish and the story is full of cliches.

lol I havent watched it apart from the first episode, I dunno I just felt TJSS's novels are stale after DD. I just couldnt keep reading his novels, it might be that I preferred once the novel is finished, it should stay finished if it is a sequel then it should continue where it left off or at least continue with the same main character and with someone else. Unlike TJSS, Heavenly Silkworm Potato does it better, he writes BTTH, and Wudong Qiankun, both are companion pieces, different world, different main character, and the only link are their sequel Da Zhu Zai (the Great Ruler). I think Da Zhu Zai works for me is that even though it has a different main character it is set on a different world. Xiao Yan and Lin Dong remains awesomely powerful throughout the novel until the close to the end where the main character exceeds them, but at the end of the novel, they are on par with him again

Precisely, you can’t step on one to lift the other up. It just doesn’t work that way especially when the previous MC/novel is one of the most popular works around.

Btw, have you watched the latest trailer from PW? It seems we’re in for a treat next week. There will be some intimate scene of SH with YueChan if you remember hestole the first kiss.

I never did like Qin Hao, and his parents, I know they tried their best, but somehow I feel that they really dont know how to be a parent, or that Chen Dong dont know what he is doing when he is writing, remember Shi Hao's grandfather left to find a cure for him then the parents left to find him and a cure, and then came back to find out Shi Hao is now a baby and was exiled cause well Shi Yi's mother's action and the whole bundle which allowed them to find Stone Village. Now here is the kicker. Ummm what illness? Seems Shi Hao was cured, you can even say the extraction of the supreme bone saved him :P Unless I am missing something when i read the novel. And then his parents goes off, like huh??? Reminds me a lot of parents who are workaholics and are rarely at home, always saying "I work hard in order to bring food to the table" Umm no you dont need to work that hard, believe me, unless you are in a poverty stricken country then yeah.

One of the confusing part is the paternal cousins relationship, in that, it would mean Shi Hao's father is brother to Shi Yi's father, yet no brotherly love and then worse part is, how does the grandfather fit in to his "rebellious son" who approved of extracting the supreme bone from Shi Hao. Unless the "tang" which is paternal, means second cousins or third cousins, but not directly cousins.

I hate novels where everything falls from the sky for the protagonists or that they are born into a life paved with gold and diamonds (usually before their fall). Lol! But since I dislike pompous shithead MCs, I tend to skip novels that feature any protagonist of that sort. I prefer MCs like SH, TS and XY.

Novel or new donghua based on his novel? What is it about?

Apparently, one of TJSS older novels has been made into a donghua and is airing in a few days on iQIYI.

I know Chen Dong has quite a following in China and many were saying he’s one of the top 5 novelists in China. If I’m not mistaken he was rated higher than TJSS in terms of literary style.

I was tempted to read one of Er Gen’s novels Renegade Immortal that was highly rated on Wuxiaworld. But now that I’ve started watching BTTH, I feel like reading the novel first. Dilemma..

Just watched the first ep of Shen Mu. Story wise, it’s definitely a rather intriguing one. But the animation is a fail. Two minutes into the show, I thought to myself, why is the quality so much like those from Youku. Well, 20mins later at the end of the closing credits, I was proven right (I’m guessing it’s from Youku’s own production).

The only way this donghua could win new viewers is to piggyback on the reputation of the author and good scriptwriting. But I’m giving it a miss for the time being. I still have 4 seasons of BTTH to catch up with.

I also watched the trailers of “Land of Miracles”, that’s clearly a few notches up. I don’t expect anything less from Bilibili Animation. I’m not sure which production studio is responsible for this donghua but it’s definitely comparable to the likes of BTTH, PW in terms of animation quality. The storyline and progression are yet to be seen. So far, it has a comedic feel to it. I might give it a go when I’m caught up with BTTH but just like you, I’m a bit sceptical now when it comes to the works of TJSS. The main reason is that I don’t feel like reading another novel from TJSS. Whenever I start a new donghua, I’d always read the novel it’s based on, with the exception of Fanren which I abandoned after a while. So yeah, we shall wait for more episodes and see what others say. So will you be interested to check these two donghuas out? Let me know. I’m curious what you think.

Apart from the existing donghuas, I havent watched any of the new ones, and more than likely apart from Doupo Cangqiong 5th season, I probably wont, because I really dont have that much time, even though I am on a 2 weeks break, while at work I can at least sneak some time to watch and to post comments here lol
